A family-owned business dedicated to keeping Texas children healthy through professional, caring health screenings.
Hi, I'm Erin Newman. I started Vision & Hearing Screening of Austin in 2008 because I believe every child deserves access to quality health screenings. Over the past 15+ years, our team has screened more than 20,000 students across the greater Austin area.
As a DSHS certified screener with 15+ years of experience, I've built trusted partnerships with over 100 schools. What started as a passion for helping kids has grown into a dedicated service for Texas children. We love what we do, and it shows in how we work with students—making each screening a positive, comfortable experience.
With 15+ years of expertise in school health screenings, I bring specialized knowledge and experience to every screening. That's why we've built our business on the foundation of care, professionalism, and genuine concern for each child's wellbeing.
Meet the dedicated professionals who make our screenings efficient, accurate, and kid-friendly.

Common questions from school administrators about our health screening services.
Vision & Hearing Screening of Austin (VHSA) was started in 2008 when an Austin private school reached out and requested help from Erin Newman, owner and founder. She went through classes, became DSHS certified, and grew the business to serve over 100 schools across the greater Austin area.
Yes, our screeners are all certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services for vision screening, hearing screening, and scoliosis screening. They are certified through the Texas Border Health Office for acanthosis nigricans screening. They all have additional training in ethics and integrity through the Catholic Diocese of Austin.
We provide all of the health screenings required by Texas state law including vision, hearing, acanthosis nigricans, and spinal screening.
DSHS requires each school to report Vision, Hearing and Spinal Screening results between January 15 and June 30. For online data entry, go to chrstx.dshs.texas.gov. Acanthosis Nigricans results must be reported to the Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes in Children at rfes.utpa.edu by March 31st.
